Creative Upcycling Workshops with Angel Contreras – Saturdays 11th and 18th January 10am-3pm

Angel Contreras is a Latin American artist living in Melbourne. He’s been making his own clothes since he was 15, and has had his own clothing brand – All Angels Are Aliens – since 2019.

Specialising in upcycling, and only using second hand materials, Angel’s one-off pieces are all hand- and machine-sewn in his studio in Brunswick. He is a master of the innovative and the experimental, and uses screen-printing, airbrushing and freehand embroidery to bring a new ultra-modern feel to secondhand clothes. Skill level: This course is open to beginners upwards – but we highly recommend having basic sewing skills (i.e. be able to thread up a machine) before you get started. Feel free to enrol in our Sewing Machine Basics or Essential Sewing Techniques to brush up on your skills beforehand, in order to maximise your time in this class. Don’t worry if your confidence isn’t huge – Angel will recommend projects to fit your skill level! Open to adults and young adults. Men and non binary folk are encouraged to attend!
