“You Do You!” Quilting Course with Tara Glastonbury

Once a month for four months

This is Tara’s choose your own adventure approach to modern quilting. Each week you will be given prompts and/or exercises based on choices you’ve made for your preferred style of piecing – designed in advance or improv – with the aim of expanding your skills, finding your artistic voice, developing your quilty problem-solving skills and maybe even sharing your quilt with a wider audience. The choices are yours – you do you.

The class sessions are spread out to give you time to absorb each lesson, try out additional exercises and continue sewing at home, so by course’s end you have a finished quilt top with a plan for adding the quilting layer.

Skill level: This course suits quilters of all skill levels who want to move beyond sewing with patterns or to further develop their own quilting voice. It is also a perfect follow-on from Tara’s beginner course ‘Not your Nana’s quilting’.

REQUIREMENTS LIST

• Some of you will be making small sewn sketches in class one, so bring along a bag of scraps – additional fabric will be required to make your quilt, but we’ll discuss that in the first session.
• Note pad or sketch pad and a pencil.
• It would be handy to have your smart phone or a tablet (If you have them) for taking photos and accessing apps.
• General sewing kit (pins, scissors, stitch ripper, etc)
• Sewing thread in a neutral colour (eg pale grey, taupe, bone)
• Sewing machine in good working order (if you prefer to use your own, otherwise one will be provided).
• You may also wish to purchase a rotary cutter and quilting ruler, so you don’t have to wait for others in class.

Where:  Level 1, 1-3 Whitehall Street Footscray VIC 3012 – we recommend typing in “School of Sewing and Upcycling” into your maps, not the address!
