Get a group of 3 – 6 friends together for a relaxing and fun session of slow sewing. Learn hand stitching technique with lots of creative possibilities for repairing & enhancing your clothes!

Utilising a decorative Japanese stitching method called sashiko, traditionally used to patch and reinforce worn work clothes and domestic textiles, we will repair and beautify your clothing’s threadbare spots, holes and rips.

This class is suitable for both beginners and more experienced sewers. Men are encouraged to attend! Our small class numbers allow your teacher Gaye to give each student lots of personalised attention. 

We will provide: Pins, darning needles, sashiko thread, scissors, and preloved fabrics, snacks, and handout notes.

Bring along: Jeans and other clothes that have rips or holes that need repairing and any special fabric scraps you have for patching. Your own sewing kit if you have one.

Visible Mending Sashiko Style Sewing Party!

Do you have a favourite item of clothing that you’ve worn to an inch of its life but can’t bear to part with because its become like a second skin? Don’t despair – in this Visible Mending Sashiko Style Workshop we can make it strong again and even better looking!

Drawing on the Japanese tradition of mending known as boro (a term used to describe garments that have been patched many times) which utilises a simple decorative stitching method called sashiko, we will repair, reinforce and enhance your garment’s threadbare spots, holes and rips. Rather than trying to conceal the wear and tear that is the mark of a much loved piece of clothing, we make a feature of our mending by highlighting and embellishing these signs of age.

NB. If the scheduled time for this workshop does not suit you contact us to discuss an alternative time. A minimum of three students is required for the class to go ahead. If you have two more friends, family members or colleagues you think might like to join you for some fun stitching get in touch to book a private class.
