Summer Learn to Sew Short Course – 4 weeks Tuesdays 6.30 – 9pm from 11th January


Learn the basics and make three fun and useful projects!

PLEASE NOTE: All students are required to be fully vaccinated to attend this course. Class numbers will be limited to 6 to meet density requirements.
If your course booking is affected by a lockdown we will reschedule your affected classes and offer additional make-up classes. You may also request a credit or full refund for classes missed due to Covid 19 restrictions imposed by the Victorian Government.

This Learn to Sew Short course runs over four x 2.5 hour lessons. Starting from scratch, you will gain the sewing skills to get you started making homewares, clothes and crafts. Each week you will build up your practice and learn new techniques. This short course is an abridged version of our seven week Beginner’s Sewing Course 
Past Projects (NB, The class content may vary over the duration of the course depending on the preferences of the student group).
WEEK 1 Sewing Machine Basics: Zippered Purse
WEEK 2  Curvy tote bag
WEEK 3 & 4 – Pyjama pants/ box top or cross-back apron

If you can already confidently use a machine to make simple items such as the above, and are interested in learning more about making garments, read about our Beyond Basics Courses.

We will provide: Sewing machines and all other equipment, beverages, handout notes, patterns for the projects, fabrics as required and lots of very practical advice and techniques!

Bring along: Your own sewing machine if you would  like to learn on that and your sewing kit if you have one (recommended for Covid Safe Plan). Any remnant fabric you would like to use. (We will provide fabric for all the projects but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer).  If you don’t yet have a machine don’t worry you can use one of ours. We also sell Sewing Starter Packs

Where:  The Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling, Level 1, 9/131 Hyde St, Footscray

When: Tuesdays 6.30 – 9pm (10 hours of tuition over four weeks) from January 11th.
Dates: January 11th, 18th, 25th. February 1st

Getting here: We are located in the Hyde Business Park close to Yarraville Gardens. 6 minutes walk (550 metres) from Seddon Station or 10 mins walk from Footscray Station straight up Hyde St. The 409 bus that runs between Highpoint and Yarraville stops right outside. There is street parking in Hyde St and customer parking behind the complex. See our Contact Page for a map.
