Sew a Garment in a Day! Sunday 24th March 10am – 4.30pm

A ‘beyond basics’ one day intensive workshop ideal for budding sewists who have completed one of our Learn to Sew One Day Workshops , Beginner’s Sewing Courses or can use a sewing machine to sew simple items.

This workshop focuses on learning to use commercial sewing patterns to make simple garments. You will make a pair of wide-leg cropped pants with pockets and an elasticised waistband, in your size, The skills you learn will enable you to get started on your own clothing projects.. (The price of the pattern we will use is included in the workshop fee.)

An extension of our Sewing Pattern Basics 3hr workshop, our full-day intensive will first take you through the fundamentals we learn in that session — how to read and apply the information on the pattern to find your size, lay and cut out your fabric, and prepare for sewing.
We will then go beyond these basics to construct our garment following the steps and techniques detailed on the pattern instruction sheets.

If you:

• know the basics of operating a sewing machine but don’t know how to take your skills to the next level
• have purchased sewing patterns and fabrics but need some help to get started
• are confused about size, cutting out and following the pattern instructions
• want to understand the principles of using sewing patterns such as finding straight grain, matching symbols and applying the sewing techniques detailed in the pattern instructions.
• like the idea of making a garment in a day with the help of a knowledgeable teacher
• want to gain sewing skills you can apply to future projects

then this is the class for you!

Your teacher: Sewing School teacher Aly Peel. Aly has a wealth of experience teaching sewing techniques and sewing pattern skills.

Skill level: You must be able to confidently use a sewing machine to construct simple items such as a cushion cover, tote bag or basic clothing item.

We will provide: Sewing machines and all other equipment. A copy of the pattern we will use in class for you to take home.

Bring along: Your own sewing machine if you would like to learn on that (we have plenty if you don’t own one). Your sewing kit if you have one. Medium-weight, woven fabric such as linen, or crisp or soft cotton and matching thread. Your teacher will be in touch with more details about fabric quantity and other materials closer to the date of the workshop.
