Overcome your threading fears and learn some great techniques beyond seam finishing!

Overlockers can be daunting machines, especially when you have to thread them from scratch for the first time. However once you’ve used one you’ll be converted! They give a professional finish and make for super speedy sewing especially when working with stretch fabrics.

Overlocker Basics workshop will start with the fundamentals of getting your machine up, running and ready to use. Firstly you’ll learn about the way the machine works, which will help you to understand how to recognise and diagnose issues with threading and tension. You will be taken through all the knobs and dials on your machine including stitch width, length and differential feed.

You will then learn a range of useful techniques that will introduce you to different ways of using this versatile machine for finishing, as welll as joining seams and attaching bands. Time permitting, we will also show you how to adjust the machine to achieve a roll hem.

Come along and learn how to use your overlocker to its fullest! All materials provided.

We will provide: Fabrics for practice and the project, scissors, pins, snacks, handout notes and lots of very useful tips and tricks!

Bring along: Your own overlocker with 4 spools of thread, the long tweezers that came with your machine (if you have them) and your overlocker instruction manual. If you would like to ‘try before you buy’ we have a few overlockers on hand for student use. Please ensure that your overlocker is in working order before you come as we are unable to undertake mechanical repairs or maintenance during the workshop.
