Open Level Sewing Course Term Two – 6 weeks (15hrs) from Tues 27th April 10am – 12.30pm (FULL!)
Sewing classes focusing on garment construction for students who can confidently use a sewing machine to make simple items. Bring sewing patterns of your choice to work on under our expert guidance and enjoy a relaxed morning of dedicated sewing time!
Skill Level: A minimum of 10 hours sewing experience is required to enroll in this course. You can confidently use a sewing machine to make accessories (eg. tote bag, cushion cover) and simple clothing items (eg. box top, pj pants). This is a great class for students who have completed one of our short or term-long Beginners courses or intensives (or equivalent), out of practice sewists who want to brush up their skills, and self taught sewers who wish learn more formally. Men are encouraged to join our friendly group! Open to adults and young adults (minimum age 15yo)
If you do not have this level of skill or experience, we recommend attending our next Learn to Sew Intensive on Saturday 25th April as a prerequisite for enrolling in this course. We also offer Short Learn to Sew courses (10 hrs) and Term-long Beginners courses.
Course Content: This course focuses on using commercial sewing patterns to make your own garments. Constructing garments from patterns of your choice, you will develop a wide range of dressmaking techniques. The sewing skills you learn will give you confidence to sew your own clothes independently into the future! We can offer you suggestions for good sewing patterns for your skill level if you are unsure about what to make.
About your Teacher: This class is taught by costumier and regular Gaye Abandon teacher Zoe Felice. Zoe is a NIDA-trained costume maker/designer
Where: The Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling, Level 1, 9/131 Hyde St, Footscray.
When: Tuesday mornings 10am – 12.30pm from April 27th (6 weeks)
APRIL 27th, MAY 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th JUNE 1st
We will provide: Sewing machines if required. A lovely bright, spacious studio to sew in. Beverages, friendly people a fabulous teacher and lots of very practical techniques to help you complete your chosen project/s!
Bring along: Your own sewing machine (if you prefer) and sewing kit (pins, scissors etc). You will need to purchase fabric and patterns for your projects, along with matching threads and other notions to finish your garments. We sell Sewing Starter Packs and other basic sewing equipment.
Getting here: We are located in the Hyde Business Park, 131 Hyde St, Footscray, close to Yarraville Gardens.
Public Transport: We are 6 minutes walk (550 metres) from Seddon Station or 10 mins walk from Footscray Station straight up Hyde St.The 409 bus runs up Hyde St between Yarraville and Highpoint Shopping Centre (via Footscray) There are stops very close to us.
