Open Level Casual Sewing Thursday morn from April 26th


Weekly sewing sessions where students of all levels can work on their own projects with the guidance of a friendly and knowledgable sewing teacher.
Thursday mornings 10am – 12.30pm April 26th to June 14th 2017
Come casually or for the full term.

Come along on a casual basis for $55 per session. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.

Suitable for all levels from absolute beginners who need to learn the basics, to more confident sewists who enjoy the support of a skilled teacher. The course will focus on understanding, following and adjusting commercial sewing patterns to make functional and good looking garments and accessories.

Regardless of your skill level, you will learn and practice invaluable sewing and finishing techniques that can be applied to many projects. Don’t worry if you have never used a sewing machine before, a second teacher will be on hand for the first two weeks of the course to guide you through the sewing machine basics. Our small class numbers (maximum 5-6 students) allow your teacher  to give each student lots of personalised attention. 

We will provide: Sewing machines and all other equipment, beverages, handout notes and lots of very practical techniques!

Bring along: Your own sewing machine if you would  like to learn on that and your sewing kit if you have one.
One or two sewing patterns and suitable fabric. If you are not sure what you want to work on bring a few pattern and fabric options to discuss. If you are beginner there is no need to bring anything to the first class as we will provide fabrics for you first projects.

These weekday morning sewing sessions (20 hours over 8 weeks) is open to all levels from absolute beginners to advanced sewing students.  We offer relaxed and engaging classes where you will increase your sewing know-how and gain confidence to practice new techniques whatever your level. Don’t worry if you have never used a sewing machine before, a second teacher will be on hand for the first two weeks of the course to guide you through the sewing machine basics.

Sewing is a wonderful life skill to possess. Being able to mend, alter, or make your own clothes and homewares from scratch can save you money, reduce your impact on the environment and give you enormous pleasure and pride. You will find that you value and cherish the things you make for years to come. Gaining confidence in using a sewing machine and stitching by hand is the first step to realising any number of textile projects. From clothes making and crafting to incorporating sewn textiles into your creative practice knowing how to sew is an essential skill!
