NEW! Not Your Nana’s Quilting (with Tara Glastonbury)
NOT YOUR NANA’S QUILTING
Five-week course
Tara Glastonbury is a designer and modern quilter known for her bold use of colour, exaggerated scale, strong geometry and a preference for using recycled materials.
Tara’s course will introduce you to the fundamentals of patchwork using traditional blocks with a modern twist – starting with easy square piecing in week one and moving through to curves in week four.
Rather than teaching a particular pattern, Tara will help you discover your own style – whether that’s modern, contemporary or improvised. The course will cover fabric and thread selection, creating colour palettes, block construction and final quilt layout.
If you’re happy to do some sewing homework, you can easily have a completed quilt top by the end of the course. Otherwise, by the end of week five you will have two cushion tops – one in a modern style and one in an improvised, upcycled style.
Students will receive a requirements list on booking.
Skill level: This course is open to beginners upwards – you should have basic sewing skills and be able to sew a straight line by machine. For those who have some experience making quilts, the course will help you take you first design or improvisation steps and give you the confidence to make quilts without a pattern.
