Learn to use a sewing machine then make a tote bag with your new found skills!

Our Learn to Sew Intensive is pitched at absolute beginners. You will gain the confidence to begin making clothes, homewares and crafts on the sewing machine and take home a smart ‘me-made’ tote bag.

If you are considering buying a machine or have recently purchased one new or second hand; have an old machine languishing in the cupboard; or just want to learn a useful new skill — then this is the class for you!

In this five hour workshop you will learn:
– about the various parts of your sewing machine and understand what they do
– to set up your sewing machine and prepare the threads ready to start sewing
– to stitch straight lines and curves and adjust stitch types for various uses
– to accurately sew and finish seams and hems
– to make a fully lined tote bag

Skill level: Absolute beginner. No sewing knowledge required. Open to adults and young adults (minimum age 13 years). Men and non-binary folk are encouraged to attend!

We will provide: All fabrics and threads for sampling and for sewing our project. Sewing machines if you don’t have, or are unable to bring your own. Sewing equipment and handout notes. If you would like to purchase some basic equipment, we sell Starter Packs containing a good quality sewing kit for $55.
