Beyond Basics Sewing Short Course 4 weeks
A four week (10 hour) short course ideal for budding sewists who can already confidently use a sewing machine to sew simple items. Gain the confidence and know-how to begin sewing your own wardrobe!  Choose your own ‘easy’ level pattern that you can complete over the 4 weeks.

This short course is focussed on  learning to use commercial sewing patterns to make simple garments. 
In the first week we will take you through the fundamentals of using sewing pattens and how to correctly cut out your pattern from your fabric.
In the following weeks you will construct your garment, following the steps detailed on the pattern instruction sheets. You will learn essential garment making techniques along the way.

Skill level: Suitable for students who can use a sewing machine to make simple items, and out of practice sewists who want to brush up their skills or learn more formally. Men are most welcome to attend!
You may have completed one of our Learn to Sew One Day Workshops , Beginner’s Courses or similar.   

We will provide: Sewing machines and all other equipment, beverages, handout notes and lots of very practical techniques!

Bring along: Your own sewing machine if you would prefer to learn on that instead, and your sewing kit if you have one. A beginner’s level sewing pattern you can complete within the four weeks and fabric. Your teacher can advise you on pattern and fabric choices before the course commences.

A Wednesday morning four-week course for sewists wanting to advance their garment construction skills.  Make a garment of your choice from an indie or Big 4 sewing pattern & learn a bunch of essential sewing techniques along the way!

Skill Level:  Open to all levels from beginners (with basic sewing machine skills) who want to learn to sew clothing, to experienced sewists who would like support tackling more difficult projects. At minimum students will have completed one of our Sewing Machine Basics workshops or similar.  Men and non- binary folk are encouraged to join our friendly group! Open to adults and young adults (minimum age 15yo).

If you do not have basic sewing machine skills or experience,  we recommend attending one of our Sewing Machine Basics or Learn to Sew Intensive Sunday workshops as a prerequisite for enrolling in this course. Alternatively you can book a private lesson with us to cover the basics.

Course content: This course focuses on using commercial sewing patterns to make your own garments.  Constructing garments from patterns of your choice, you will develop a wide range of dressmaking techniques. The sewing skills you learn will give you confidence to sew your own clothes independently into the future! We can offer you suggestions for good sewing patterns for your skill level if you are unsure about what to make.

NB: If covid related circumstances mean you have to miss a week we will offer a make-up. You must be fully vaccinated to attend classes.
