Intermediate Sewing Course Term Three – 8 weeks (20hrs) from Monday 3rd August (1 SPOT LEFT!)
Tackle more challenging projects and learn professional dressmaking techniques!
Over eight 2 1/2 hour lessons you will continue to learn new skills and consolidate your sewing practice. In this course you will make a two of the following garments: a classic long sleeved shirt or blouse / a fitted dress / zip front pants / casual jacket. The course content may vary over the duration of the course depending on the preferences of the student group..
This course is suitable for students who completed our Beyond Basics course (or equivalent). You will have the skills to confidently use a sewing machine to sew garments and other textiles following easy sewing patterns. Along with advanced sewing techniques, you will learn how to adjust patterns and garments-in-progress to achieve a good fit. Please note: Some sewing between classes will be required to keep up.
Skill level: This course is for students who have completed our Beyond Basics course or have sewing skills similar to those covered at this level. You will be able to confidently use a sewing machine to make garments such as skirts with zip closures, simple tops/ shift dresses with bindings and facings or pull-on pants.

Where: The Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling, Level 1, 9/131 Hyde St, Footscray.
When: Monday evenings 6.30 – 9pm from AUGUST 3RD (20 hours over 8 weeks)
AUGUST 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st SEPTEMBER 7th 14th, 21st.
Course overview: We will make two professionally finished items of clothing over the eight week course — Project one will be a dress or shirt (or shirt dress). Project 2 will be pants or a simple jacket. NB. The content of the course may vary after discussion with the student group.
Your teacher: Zoe Gymer-Waldron is a NIDA-trained costumier who has made a multitude of costumes and dance wear for theatre, film, burlesque, cabaret and dance performance. She is also an expert dress and pattern maker and regular Gaye Abandon teacher. Zoe also teaches our popular Overlocker Basics and Pattern Making: Recreate a Wardrobe Favourite workshops along with other specialised workshops and intensives. Zoe is also available for private lessons focused on fitting, pattern drafting and specialised techniques for making bras and corsets.
We will provide: Sewing machines if required and all other equipment. A lovely spacious studio to work in. Beverages, snacks, handout notes and lots of friendly vibes and very practical techniques!
Bring along: Your own sewing machine and kit if you prefer. You will be required to purchase fabric and a pattern for each project, along with matching threads and other notions required to finish your garments.
Getting here: We are located in the Hyde Business Park, 131 Hyde St, Footscray, close to Yarraville Gardens.
Public Transport: We are 6 minutes walk (550 metres) from Seddon Station or 10 mins walk from Footscray Station straight up Hyde St.The 409 bus runs up Hyde St between Yarraville and Highpoint Shopping Centre (via Footscray) There are stops very close to us. NB. If you are booking more than 6 weeks in advance, payment can be made in two instalments via direct deposit with the balance due two weeks before the commencement of classes.
