Hand Sewing and Visible Mending Workshop Saturday 17th November 3pm – 6pm
You don’t have to know how to use a sewing machine to make and repair textiles. After all, until the first Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth century all clothing was sewn by hand. In this hand sewing and mending workshop you will learn the basic hand stitching techniques required to produce and mend garments and textiles.
We will cover the sewing techniques you need to start creating and mending your own clothes by hand. After some needle and thread basics, you will learn three easy, hand sewn stitches – running stitch, backstitch and hemming. We will also teach you simple decorative stitching techniques.
Working with these stitches, you will learn how to create strong and neat French seams, and take up a hem. You will take home a small hand sewn soft case with optional ‘sashiko stich’ embellishment.
All materials, handout notes with stitches, tips and further references will be provided.
NB. If the scheduled time for this workshop does not suit you contact us to discuss an alternative time. A minimum of five students is required for the class to go ahead. If you have two more friends, family members or colleagues you think might like to join you for some fun stitching get in touch to book a private class.
