Garment in a Day Sewing Intensive – Fremantle Pants Sunday 23rd August 10am – 4.30pm
Sew the popular, unisex FREMANTLE PANTS by ELBE TEXTILES in this full-day workshop!
Learn the fundamentals of using sewing patterns to make garments, and master essential sewing techniques!
Our Garment in a Day Sewing Intensive is a one-day workshop ideal for budding sewists who know the basics of using a sewing machine to make simple items, but have little or no experience using sewing patterns.
The Fremantle Pants have a comfortable, relaxed fit with legs that taper in slightly at the hem. They feature side and back pockets, an elasticated waistband with optional drawstring and darts on the back for subtle shaping. This is an ‘advanced beginner’ project. The price of the pattern is included in the workshop fee.
If you are an absolute beginner and would like to learn sewing machine basics then make a simple top, we recommend you take our Learn to Sew Full-Day Intensive on Sunday 17th May. You could then advance your skills further with this Garment in a Day Sewing Intensive a fortnight later.
You will learn to:
- understand the principles of using sewing patterns to make garments using a pattern designed by Perth-based, indie pattern company Elbe Textiles
- read and apply the information detailed in the sewing pattern to find your size; lay and cut out your fabric, and prepare for sewing.
- construct and finish your garment following the pattern instructions, learning essential sewing techniques along the way.
- make in-seam and patch pockets, darts, and elastic casing; other construction methods specific to making pants and more!
Skill level: This workshop is pitched at ‘beyond basics’ level sewers. You must have confidence using a sewing machine to construct simple items (eg. a cushion cover, tote bag or easy clothing item).
Your teacher: Sewing school founder Gaye Naismith. Gaye has many years sewing and teaching experience and is dedicated to helping students achieve their goals while having fun along the way!
We will provide: Sewing machines, overlockers and all other equipment. A pdf copy of the Fremantle Pants pattern for you to take home. Lunch, tea and coffee, bikkies.
Bring along: Your own sewing machine if you would like to learn on that (we have plenty if you don’t own one). A sewing kit and fabric scissors if you have them. Fabric and matching thread. Your teacher will be in touch with more details about fabric recommendations, quantity and other required materials closer to the date of the workshop.
