Pattern Making: Design a Panel Skirt that Fits! Sunday 16th Sept 10am – 2.30pm

Pattern Making: Design a Panel Skirt

Learn how to create multi-panelled skirt patterns to your own measurements.

NB. This class is limited to a maximum of 4 people (rather than our usual 6) to ensure everyone has enough space to work, and so the teacher can focus on your individual fitting requirements. The slightly higher than usual workshop fee reflects this.

Leaning how to draft a panel skirt is an easy entry point to creating your own designs. Variations on the panel or gore skirt are endless. Once you understand the basics you are on your way to creating a multitude of skirts with unique details and flair!

In this session you will draft one (or more) panel skirt using your own waist and hip measurements without the need to create a skirt block. By the end of the workshop you will have created a draft pattern, and cut and sewn some sample panels to see how they go together. We will start with an 8 gore skirt and if time permits try one or more other options.

About your Teacher: This class is taught by teacher and designer-maker (of Maiike) Aly Peel. Aly has extensive pattern making experience. She has designed clothing for her own label and has taught Fashion Design at RMIT.

Skill Level: This class is suitable for ‘beyond basics’ sewists who know how to use a sewing machine. No pattern drafting experience is necessary.

We will provide: Fabric scissors, tape measures, pins and sewing machines along with snacks, beverages, handout notes and lots of very useful tips and tricks!

Bring along:
HB pencil and sharpener
Paper scissors
Eraser
60cm ruler (drafting ruler is 60cm long)
fabric for toile (plain and stiff-ish) – calico is best because it’s easy to cut and write on.
Your own sewing machine if you prefer to work on it rather than one of ours.

Where: The Gaye Abandon Workroom, 122 Buckley St, Footscray.

When:  Sunday 16th September 10am – 2.30pm

Getting here: We are just near the corner of Buckley St and Victoria St in Footscray.
